Can no longer output DV AVIs with proper resolution
I remember that, until some time ago, I was able to output DV-encoded NTSC AVI files from Final Cut Pro using the Quicktime Conversion Export feature. As I recall if I was outputting from a sequence that was 720×486, it would chop off the top and bottom 3 lines and change to the correct aspect.
As of late, I notice that the resulting files are now somehow botched. AVIs exported from a 720×486 sequence still end up having 486 lines (which i didn’t even think the codec allowed)… and when I reimport a resulting AVI into FCP, I see some combination of horizontal interlace/aspect errors and destructive cropping on the right side. Performing an Analyze Movie on the clip lists it as being 640×480 or 640×486 rather than 720. However I have brought the same files into Windows-based NLE’s like Vegas and those NLE’s interpret them as being 720 and they display fine.
I tried many different combinations of outputting (non-custom) Quicktime-via-FCP, Quicktime-Conversion-via-FCP, Compressor and Quicktime-Pro-Player-Export… But the only way I can manage to get a proper 720×480 DV-encoded NTSC AVI file is for me to first export a (non-custom) Quicktime in FCP, choose ‘DV NTSC 48khz’ from the drop-down, then open the resulting .MOV file in Quicktime Pro Player and then use the Export feature to export an AVI with the ‘DV/DVCPRO – NTSC’ feature.
Does anyone have an idea how this changed on me? My only thought is some Quicktime or FCP update in the recent past, messed up this particular feature.
