Can MC 5.5 open a media composer 6 project?
Posted by Andy Field on December 17, 2011 at 2:55 pmNeed to deliver finished timelines to a post-house that’s still on 5.5 — is it possible to to a SAVE AS 5.5 out of version 6 – or can 5.5 read a 6 project? If not are there other options like XML out? Thanks

December 17, 2011 at 3:07 pmThe project should transfer fine. I don’t believe the Pan and Zoom plugin is backwards compatible though so if you used it the moves will have to be recreated.

Mostly true…however Avid made a change to the DNX codec several years ago (around MC 4?)to meet SMPTE spec that causes some tricky issues with backwards compatibility.
Generally no problem with bins and projects, though. Way better than FCP.
