  • Can idvd burn to another external burner???

Posted by Mark Chadwick on January 10, 2006 at 6:33 pm

    Hello,
It doesn’t look like I can but I thought i’d ask. I have a Lacie external dvd burner and I was wondering if there was a way to make idvd burn to the lacie instead of the internal burner. I know in toast you can change to which burner you wanted but can you do that in idvd??

    thanks

Officially, no it won’t work. You need an internal SuperDrive to burn DVD’s from iDVD. However, there is a workaround. You can save your DVD project as a Disk Image (File > Save As Disk Image). You can then burn the image to a DVD with an application like Roxio Toast, or you can even do it with Disk Utility. The exact method varies depend on which version of OS X you are using.

Not hard to do, but you’d probably be better off buying a SuperDrive off Ebay, etc, rather than an external DVD burner, in my opinion.
