  • Can I transfer high quality footage from FCP to finish in Media Composer?

Posted by Cammie Noel on April 6, 2011 at 5:22 am

This is kind of a redundant post, but I am trying to finish my project in Media composer after doing most of the editing in FCP 5. I want to take the whole film (a feature 1 hr 45 min ) and finish it there in Avid, do some color correction, and a few other effect things in Avid Media composer 5 ( my old version of FCP{ doesn’t have the same features and my Mac is a G5 power PC. The Avid system is much newer.

It needs to be the best quality and I cannot seem to figure out how to get the project from one computer to the other , can’t do it on an external drive ( file too big,) is there some way to do this fairly easily??

I can’t use anything that requires FCP 6 or newer because it FCP 5 that I have. : ( Thanks very much for input.

Cammie Noel…that’s the name of my mother in law. Funny…not that common of a name.

    ANYWAY…

What format are you working with in FCP? Can’t be ProRes…that didn’t come until FCP 6. Just curious. What you will need is either Automatic Duck (the BEST) or Boris AAF (haven’t tested that yet)…to get your sequence and media into the Avid…with the footage.

Once there…transcode the sequence to an Avid codec to your Avid drives.

GETTING ORGANIZED WITH FINAL CUT PRO DVD…don’t miss it.

Woa that is funny, wow! hmmmm !! (name)

    DV/DVCPro NTSC SD

This by far much more than I have ever attempted before… ; /

Boris AAF is only good for FCP6 and up …tried that…

I don’t understand the dynamics of how Automatic duck works… guess I need to research that more.

    Thank you
