  • Can I somehow bring a simple FCP project into Premiere Pro?

Hello, I have a simple FCP project. It’s all straight cuts from 2-angle multiclips. All media is either DV-NTSC quicktime movie files or 48 khz/16 bit AIFFs. No filters, some normal video dissolves and audio cross fades. Can I somehow convert a FCP project file into something that Premiere Pro can import? Any media-related problems I should be aware of?

You can’t import a FCP project into PPRO. Does FCP export to EDL?

    FCP does do EDL.
    1. Export an EDL from FCP project
    2. Import EDL into a DV NTSC PPro project
    3. Recapture the footage.
    4. Try to link it to the original footage, but that will probably not be accurate. (for many reasons).
    5. Recapture with extra long handles to keep the ability to reedit.

    NOTE:
FCP and PPro will only talk clearly with EDL, but that is a defined list of cuts not the original captured footage. Which is why you need to recapture.

Will FCP export an AAF file? Premiere can import AAF, though it does not always work. AAF is apparently pretty unrefined vis-a-vis compatibility. A CMX EDL might be more reliable.
Another possibility is FCP –> OMF file, OMF into AfterEffects, AE –> Premiere. (good luck if you try it!)

Also remember there are subtle nuances with the FCP format EDL and the Premiere Pro. It almost certainly never works by just using the export -edl commands.

Nested Sequences and Multiclip info won’t EDL. You can only EDL properly straight footage.
