  • Can I remove automation gain in one fell swoop?

    Hello gang,

on Avid, there is an option to remove all automation gain (volume and effects etc) from a selected sequence. This is pretty useful when you want to make a clean OMFI for a sound mastering session.

Can’t seem to find the equivalent in FCP? I’m sure there must be an easier way than going through the whole sequence and setting it all back to unchanged.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Manual doesn’t seem to help.

    Thanks,

    The Otter

Select all of the audio clips you’d like to remove the gain keyframes from in the Timeline window.

Control click on one of them, and select “remove attributes”. select level and click OK.

OMFIs don’t transfer dynamic gain, panning or FX like EQ anyway. When I import FCP or AVID OMFIs I choose to ignore clip gain. So I always tell editors not to bother removing mix automation or clip gain as it doesn’t translate anyway.

Check with your audio post people as they will tell you if they want clip gain or not, or if you actually need to remove it. Also they may really want everything, in which case you will need software like Automatic Duck to transfer all the stuff that OMFI ignores.
