  • Can i read out the VANC data from an SDI Stream?

Posted by Steffen Boerner on January 28, 2009 at 1:01 pm

    Hello,

i want to get the Timecode coming in the VANC data of an SDI Videostream. The Video comes from an RED Camera which put the Timecode in the SDI Data. I have a HD Extreme and want to know whether it’s possible to read out the Timecode.

    Kind regards

    Hi.

It seemes that RED is the key part here as BM should read vanc trough SDI. I have done it with digibeta and SDI.

But why use SDI with RED enyway ?

Yes absolutely. Reading the VANC data from an SD-SDI or HD-SDI stream (that includes Closed Captioning data) is often of great help – it is necessary in order to verify CC, to monitor things like AFD or Broadcast Flag, to capture VANC info such as CC data to a separate file, etc.

Vela Research has solutions, one of which is called ArgoNavis, geared to monitoring, verifying and/or capturing VANC data from SDI streams.
