  • Can I match the timeline playhead to my viewer playhead?

Posted by Noam Osband on October 11, 2011 at 3:18 pm

Sometimes, I’m looking at an image in the viewer. I get to the spot i want. I want the playhead in the timeline to move automatically to that spot. I know I could make a marker and then move it. But i’m wondering if there is a keystroke or command that can get the timeline playhead to match the viewer playhead?

I really don’t see the reason for that function.
If you already have the clip in the time-line, why don’t look for “the spot” over there?
In the other hand, if you put twice the same clip in the time-line, to which one of them would the play-head go?

    Hi Noam

it seems what you are asking for is what Avid call “Reverse match Frame”
where you click the viewer (source) clip and the timeline moves to the corresponding point.
While FCP does not have a reverse match frame button as such you can still pretty much do the same thing. Just select your clip in the viewer and select “f” (match frame) and the timeline will move to the corresponding position as long as the shot is in your cut of course.

Is that what you meant ?

    best wishes

I had no idea was possible to match from the Viewer to the Canvas.
Never tried, but good to know it.
    Thanks.
