  • Can I import VOB files from DVD into Vegas-5?

Posted by Tinfish on September 23, 2005 at 9:36 am

    Hi guys,

Yesterday I was sent a DVD of stunt flying (by Peter Besenyei
of the Red Bulls stunt team).

I’ve extracted some clips (VOBs) from the DVD to make a
short WMV video for Peter (I have his permission to do so).

Vegas-5 wont import the VOBs into the timeline though.
Ive tried using DVD2AVI to convert the files to avi,
but when played the picture is split in two (i.e. the top
half of the video appears on the bottom part of the screen).

Any idea how to get VOB files to appear in Vegas?
(Do I need the proper codec, for example?)

    Thanks in advance.

Try renaming the .vob to .mpeg. That should get you the video portion. The AC-3 audio has to be extracted by third party software.

In Vegas 6, you can drop vobs right on the timeline and get the video and audio.

The best, fastest converter I have used is Womble’s MPEG Video Wizard. You can convert to dvd ready mpg2 in one pass, video and audio both. I usually choose to convert the AC3 to PCM audio. It’s really fast, too. Plus lots of other target formats as well. Well worth getting.

    >Try renaming the .vob to .mpeg. That should get you the video portion.< ----- Hi Gary, Thanks, but I tried that last night. Vegas5 froze when I attempted to put the VoB on the timeline. I might try again though, if there are no other suggestions out there. ?? Thanks Tin

Thanks Ray. I’m looking at Womble’s MPEG Video Wizard now.

    Cheers,

Take a look on VideoRedo … I think is better than Womble and have many useful features about mpeg & VOB editing & joining…

Besides, I never have problems using DVD2AVI with the VFAPI converter & codec for using some VOBs as AVIs into Vegas …..
