    Hi All-

I was asked to cut a short film being shot on the Genesis. I have a pretty souped up system capable of handling big files so I am wondering if there is any workflow where I can edit the HD Camera original footage and bypass the telecine process.

What file format does that Genesis create and can FCP read it or do I have to go the “old school” method of creating a FLX or ALE file and a DVCPro dub? How would I get the digital files from the genesis to the Mac? I assume there is no Firewire..

Have any of you cut raw genesis footage and are there any issues or warnings I should heed?

    Thanks!

    David

What is your goal for finishing? In HD or 2K? That would help making any decisions in the first place.

Tthe Genesis creates .dpx files and you can work with the raw files directly in FCP with Glue Tools (a plug-in you have to buy). Glue Tools works with QuickTime so it’s fairly seamless. You need more than just a “souped up” system to handle these in 2K. You need a serious RAID array that will do over 350 MB/sec, I believe.

Depends on the production and how there are planning on capturing the content, is it to SR tape or to frames via Stwo, codex or Rave units.

If it is video tape, treat as video tape and be done with it, whether you need to dual link or single link for capture depend on the delivery requirements. If you are planning on going DPX -get glue tools, nothing works better for handling DPX frames inside of the FCS workflow.

No there is no firewire port on a genesis camera
