Can I get an old Avid codec to work in CS5?
My company is working on transitioning: from Windows XP to Windows 7, from Adobe Production Premium CS3 to CS5, and eventually from Avid Xpress 3.1 to Media Composer 5.
Currently my problem is that we have a lot of stuff exported in the old Avid codec from Avid Xpress 3.1 (I believe the codec is Avid AVI Codec 1.08) that we would like to still be able to work with. At the very least we want to be able to take the old Avid codec exports and rewrap or recompress them in some format that everyone can use. Unfortunately, we don’t know what that format is and we don’t have solid compression software that can handle the old Avid files. We have Adobe Media Encoder CS5, but it won’t read the old codec correctly. We’ll be getting the latest edition of Sorenson Squeeze when we upgrade our Avid, but I don’t know if it will be able to work with the old Avid files either.
Any ideas for what I could potentially do to solve this now? or does anyone know if there is a way to get CS5 to work with old 32-bit codecs?
