    Hi

upon hearinmg the news about mult – formats in the FCP 6 timeline, i had to wonder if you would need a quad or octo 8 core to get a decent preview.

Has anyone seen an FCP 6 timeline playing multiple flavors? if so on what machine? adn can it play qt animation codec or any alpha channel video as well?

    thanx

Looks like they’re optimizing existing (idle) power. No doubt the new hardware will be needed for the higher end formats but, trying to read between the lines of the marketing hype and the reports, looks like there’s still plenty of available overhead in CPU and GPU to handle this. Recent threads indicate mixed format is a PREVIEW ONLY effect with a green render bar on previous generation Macintosh models.

Sorry to butt in, I’m just speculating.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I drilled two people pretty hard on this at the Apple booth. They swore to me that on my dual G5, I could do RT mixed format for all NON-MPEG based codecs (meaning HDV, XDcam, etc.). I would not get an orange bar or anything like that mixing ProRes, Uncompressed, DVCProHD, etc.

Hopefully they were telling the truth. But I honestly think they are. If you look at product page, this is a listed feature, and there is no mention of certain requirements in the tech specs. They breakdown different things like (you need xxx graphics card for Color and Motion) but there is no mention of any minimum requirements for mixed format.
