Can I change my 00:00 point in a sequence?
I’d like to change my 00:00 point in my sequence – can this be done?
For example, I usually put bars, slate, etc. at the beginning of a sequence. But if I want to start the timecode 00:00 at the beginning of the actual edited piece (AFTER bars, etc.), how would I do this?

Sequence Settings > Timeline Options
Change the Starting timecode.

Select your Sequence in the Browser. Hit CMD+0 (zero, not the letter O).
Click on the Timeline Option tab at the top. There is a Starting timecode box. Subtract the length of your bars, tone, slate and black from 00:00. Enter that into the box. Hit the “OK” button, and that should be it.

It’s generally much easier to have the part you care about start at 1:00:00:00. That way, you don’t have to worry about the “midnight effect”, as one frame before 00:00:00:00 is 23:59:59:29 (for 29.97 timebase).
Often machines will see 23 hours, and go into reverse to try to get to 00:00.
Believe me, you’ll save yourself headaches if you use 1:00:00:00 as a starting point, and set your bars and tone before that.

That is the general rule of thumb, though if you’re delivering to a broadcaster, check their specs first. One network we deliver to requires our shows to start at 10:00:00;00.

I think that broadcaster has the spirit of Spinal Tap, and they want shows that go to 11.
