Can I apply the remove hum audio enhancement from just a section of a clip?
If I mark off a section in a clip in the timeline with the range tool, can i apply hum remover just to that section or will it apply it to the whole clip? At one point during an interview in a train station, a man started cleaning the floor. It was loud but a steady noise. I don’t need to apply it to the whole clip. Just that. I know I can use Soundtrack Pro…but I’d rather do it in FCP X if I can.

You can split the clip on the timeline to isolate that section and apply audio enhancement to just that portion. Cross-fade to smooth the transition. Personally, I’d use an audio app to fix it, as I wouldn’t put much faith in FCPX’s ability to deal anything but the most minor issues.

I had the same issue too
I took to just using the blade tool to chop that portion and do just that section that way.
Also did the other way, in an external app then re import just the clean audio to a separate track.
I Opend the original movie clip in Amadeus pro, as tha tis what I happened to have at hand, saved the audio as a wav file, then used …Vinyl Studio ..as that is also an app I happened to have that is good a hum removal, then re imported the saved clip.
Much better apps and ways to do it . but not as easy as within FCP X

Is there a way to export to Soundtrack Pro from within FCP X? I didn’t see any nor did Google searches show anything…but maybe im wrong.

Soundtrack Pro has the same Noise Reduction algorithms as FCPX, which I’m sure came from Logic’s ancient plugins that have been around for about 15 years. Sadly, the algorithms aren’t much good these days. It would be nice if Apple could get on top of it and offer us something more useable.
What you really need is 3rd party. There are a few options around, unfortunately many are quite pricey..
