  Can HDV/Mpeg2 captured in PP CS3 be imported into FCP6?

  Can HDV/Mpeg2 captured in PP CS3 be imported into FCP6?

  We began a project on a PC with Premiere Pro CS 3 and now have switched to a Mac with Final Cut 6. The files were captured with an HDV capture preset and stored as 1 hr. clips (1 tape), not compressed or cut at all.

  I have had success in copying the files to the Mac, which appear as QT Mpeg2 files, but when I try to open them or to import them into Final Cut, the whole computer freezes up and I have to Force Quit the Finder/Final Cut. I have also tried an program called Flip4Mac that is supposed to open Windows Media material in Quicktime to be played, imported or exported. This program also freezes up when I try to open the files. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  We have a new Mac Pro with a lot of storage and ram, so I think that even though the files are around 10 gb each, it should be able to handle them. We have about 20 tapes (20 files) that we want to move over to the Mac. It would not be terrible to have to recapture them and I am wondering if this is best for the sake of quality… or is a way to open them on the Mac and import the media into FCP?
