Sure, but your results may vary.

FCP cannot access MXF files for uprez natively. They will need to be imported into FCP first via FILE>IMPORT>PANASONIC P2. Then you can downconvert using the media manager and retain all the timecode.

I want to upres Dvcpro50 mxf shot on the SPX800 and edited with 720p footage from a HVX200 and the output a HD Dvd on a 9 gig disk. many shooters tell me they shot with the SDX900 and upres it to cut with a Varicam. If a SPX800 has a HD lens on it shouldn’t it stand up pretty well to the HDX200?

    Shane,

I think that would be an upconvert.

Is the import process a generation loss or signal degradation or just an unwrapping of the mxf to a quicktime file? but regardless as to the original question will the upres occur in final cut or compressor? this question refers to wanting to edit HD from a HVX200 and SD from a SPX800 and output a 720p DVD.

There is no generation loss, you are just doing a file transfer, and technically wrapping the MXF in a Quicktime wrapper.

Your best bet is to run all of your DVCPRO 50 clips through Compressor using an Advanced Outputs preset (or something like that). There is a preset for DVCProHD which is what you are going to edit with, right? Just apply that preset and it’ll uprez-away.

And if you do plan on doing this again, make a compressor droplet
