Can Avid 5.5 & Final Cut 7 run on the same system?
Posted by Larry Tempesta on June 28, 2011 at 1:17 amI’m considering getting Avid 5.5 as my 2nd choice because I have no idea what the future of FCP is and I figure I’m going to need to relearn avid just to be safe. Does anyone know if Avid 5.5 and FCP 7 can be installed on the same boot drive running Mac OSX 10.6.8 with quicktime pro 7?
Thanks

June 28, 2011 at 5:16 amI think Shane Ross has said that there have been codec conflicts when the two are installed on the same boot drive. Search the forum for sure, or for the ultimate protection setup a new boot drive on a firewire drive. If you’re just learning Avid the FW drive may be your best bet.
BTW, you can just clone your current system drive, then test installing Avid on your main system drive and you can always clone back from the copy in case you experience any issues.

June 28, 2011 at 5:48 amMe too. I have CS5.5, FCP 7.0.3, and MC 5.5.2 on the same machine. The thing I wouldn’t do, though, is upgrade to 10.6.8 just yet. Those f’ing OS updates almost always break something. Never sure why people are so quick to pull the trigger until they know if it’ll work.

If they’d make clones first it wouldn’t be a big deal, but they’d rather spend an entire day reloading everything than 1-hour making a clone.

“Thanks for correcting me Shane, I wasn’t sure if I remembered you saying something about that or if it was a figment of my vivid imagination.

June 29, 2011 at 2:04 amWell I sure can’t seem to run CS5.5PP as far as utilizing my Matrox MX02LE to monitor. I get nothing out of PP. Works fine on FCP7. Have one of you guys gotten a Matrox02 box to display external video with PPCS5.5? How??

June 29, 2011 at 2:09 amDo you have the newest driver? It was just release a few days ago. My Matrox MXO2 Mini works with CS5.5 now.
