Can anyone tell me what’s happening here?
I was flipping between the H and V keys and somehow I pressed something else by mistake. I think it was X.
Either way, I now have this “highlight” on my Timeline.
I don’t know what it’s for and I don’t know how to get rid of it.

Looks like you marked an In and Out on that clip which is what the X Key does.
Clear the In and Out by hitting ALT-X or go under the Markers Menu and Clear the In and Out.\”MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTTO: If you think three copies of your Media or Projects are enough. Take a moment to place a value on them and then maybe add two more.

I agree with Brent. On my system I mapped my keyboard setting to G for clear in and out, so I can clear with a single key hit.
