Can anyone explain AUTO BACKUP to me?
Posted by Barrie Williams on November 1, 2012 at 4:09 pmHi Guys
is there anyone here who understands Resolve’s AutoBackup workflow?
I am presented with a list of emptiness, it has a “refresh” button. why?
Then, However many times it saves , there is only one backup, a huge list of emptiness, which seems to indicate that it is erasing the backups as it goes.
in which case it should be renamed Auto_DESTROY_existing_backup.
and there is no “make backup now” button
and no way to name or annotate the backup. But maybe i am just doing something wrong.
… anyone please?Barrie

November 1, 2012 at 5:28 pmpage 98 of the manual. turn auto save on. then select “to backup project” this should start a list of backups for every 10 minutes or whatever you selected. never tried it though as it takes longer to save and would interrupt workflow i imagine.

November 1, 2012 at 5:36 pmThank Paul,
Thank you for your fast response , yes i have read the manual, and did exactly what you said.
I am seeing the “saving” progress bar interrupting me with great regularity, but on the last project , i only ever saw ONE backup, no accumulated list, despite refreshing the list
I now have started another project, which is regularly autosaving and interrupting me (and irritating my client)… But now i have ZERO saved projects in the list
even after pressing refresh !!
its not only REALLY badly designed, its broken, in my opinion.
anyone got a fix?

November 1, 2012 at 5:55 pmThank you Paul,
OSX 10.7.5
Resolve 9.0.2.15Would i do better to move up to Mountain Lion?
BTW, I just this minute changed my settings from “Save project to Backup” to “Save Project, ON”, and my only backup in the list has now been deleted.
This is a great AutoDELETE facility, why has it been named “autoSAVE”?

November 1, 2012 at 6:50 pmok just tested here. I’m on mac, latest everything. full license / dongle.
only one item ever shows in backup list. i tried a manual save and it deleted that one item in the list leaving nothing.
my system is set up with “database” structure as it is an install over an existing ver 8 lite.
i guess it doesn’t work then. surprising this has not been brought up before…http://www.4Kfinish.com | owner-colorist | Hollywood, CA

November 1, 2012 at 7:01 pmThanks for checking paul. When talking with other resolve users before installing my v7 system , the general consensus was, don’t go near print to tape or auto backup , so I guess it has been like this for a long time.
It’s low priority, as we can manually create backups, I just feel it should be removed entirely until it works, because it gives new users a false sense of security.

November 1, 2012 at 7:39 pmNot working here.
Even basic autobackup is not functioning.
Can someone from davinci chime in here and maybe give us a clue as to what is saved, in what format. Internal or external to project, and exactly where , and the naming convention, so we can progress this further ?
Thanks

November 2, 2012 at 5:58 amHi Barrie,
The auto-save (with backup) is designed to help you recover your un-saved work if you have a crash during your session. This is not a versioning tool, it just keeps one copy of the project. If you press save, the backup is cleared out as you have already saved the work.
When used without the backup mode, it is exactly the same as pressing the “Save” button manually every 10 minutes or whatever the frequency you set it to save as.
Regards,
Rohit
