    Hey Guys:
I need to preview in real time ( After effect CS3 ) my HD 1080i work in an external monitor I am not sure with card should I purchase. I have a Viewsonic 1920×1080.

I know that the most used card are balckmagic and AJA Kona models but I have read some complaints about both.

Firstly I was after Intensity Pro (blackmagic) but it seems that it does not work well with HD output.
Then I searched info about DeckLink (Blackmagic). It seems it works ok but not more reference than oficial web.
Finally somebody told me that AJA Kona cards work really well but I don’t know which model will be the proper for monitoring my work in realtime.

Can anybody help me with this ?

    Thanks
    Andres

    Hi.

I do not know your budget but generally you could get Intensity Pro and have HDMI to DVI conversion peace between Intensity Pro and your monitor and it should do it. Audio you get out as SPDIF or analogue so for monitoring i’d say it is really great for its price. I have not used it myself but all descriptions say that it should be good for this and it is really cheap 🙂

Yes I understand you but beyond the description people around here say that intensity pro does not work well with 1080i preview footage

    Hi.

But do you know why is that ?

Some people used to say that Avid was good. I strongly disagree 🙂

You should have exact proof why stuff is not right for you then you’d know
what and why. If it is not too much for you then id test it out.
What i have seen mostly is that if you use wrong settings and do not get stuff to work
in 20 seconds then some people say it is not great. I’d say it is mostly human error or
just bad monitor specially for interlaced material. Most regular computer monitors are really
bad with interlaced material in the first place. Search cow for monitors and you should get
the right result or get hdmi decent tv with full hd. Downside with good lcd monitors is that really good monitor will cost a lot. I tend to make all my stuff in progressive and it serves me well and looks more movie like.

    Just some ideas.

Intensity can NOT preview HD in realtime in AE. It only works using DV PAL/ NTSC. HDTV 720 x 1280 = gives me 21 frms and 1080 x 1920 = 10 frms.

SO if Intensity Pro does not give me realtime preview in HD 1920×1080 which are my options ?

will Decklink HD extreme work ? I mean in terms of giving realtime RAM preview in After effects.
May be there is another workflow that I am not taking into account.

Or may be I have to accept that I will just see my HD feedback not in motion.

I don´t know what to purchase to have a proper feedback of my HD composition in After Effects.

I don’t know the other cards, you have read and check. I got the intensity card because the pricetag, and as a workaround i do my HD work in AE and preview in realtime on my computer monitor. No problem there… with AE and QT animation codec. Then I render the movie with BM codec and watch it through the intensity card HMI connection to my HD TV.
