Can AJA Kona 2 take DV footage and….
Question for the gurus…
Can the AJA Kona 2 take DV media and output it as AJA 8bit or 10bit media in an AJA based timeline?
The answer to this question is a determining factor in our facilities definite migration from the Pinnacle CineWave workflow.

You can set up a DV timeline and have it play out in realtime via the Kona 2 card, but it’s still DV footage. So you can simply edit a DV project, then play it out directly via SDI, Component or Composite to the deck of your choice.
Kona 2 is an excellent choice to migrate from CineWave. I did it last year and it’s just a killer unit with added benefit of 10bit HD built on-board instead of having to purchase the extra BOB and being limited to 8bit HD.

Let me add to Walter’s comments that I just migrated a client from 2 Cinewaves to 2 Kona 2’s and they could not be more delighted. Since the Cinewave has dropped in value so much, he intends keeping them and throwing them into some older G5’s just to capture the occasional 8-bit uncompressed SD from BetaSP. But they had so many problems with HD that their only option was to ditch them.
