  • Can a video clip lose quality with ,multiple rerendering, with overall quality be sacrificed?

I have a question, can rerender a video file, say I rendered and found I forgot to add chapter markers to sequence, rendered it to a Quicktime DV clip, I deleted all render files after export. Now all I have is the DV clip that needs to have chapter markers added, When I open it in FCP 5, and add chapter markers and then export to a new updated Quicktime DV movie. Will I be sacrificing the quality of the this DV clip, if I now go in yet again, and add some Motion graphics, to it? Once again all render files are deleted. I guess what I am asking is if you open edit, several times using new render files each time you make changes with this compromise the quality of the final video?

As always thanks in advance for your reply to my Post,

    Sebastian

    No.

I’m assuming you mean that you’ve exported the sequence to a QuickTime movie and then imported that movie back into FCP.

Anyway, if that is what you’ve done, after you’ve added the chapter markers and the motion graphics, it’s probably best to export this new sequence as a QuickTime movie, making sure the “Make movie self contained” box is unchecked.

Chapter markers are contained in a Quicktime text track, not in the video stream itself. The video stream won’t change a bit if you use File > Export > Quicktime Movie (not Export > Using Quicktime Conversion). Off course, don’t tick the “Recompress All Frames” option.

Adding motion graphics will cause rendering and recompression of all frames affected. This will compromise quality.
