  • Can a script damage AE?

Posted by Riccardo Sinti on February 20, 2007 at 10:47 pm

A freelancer was using my computer and added a script to allow background rendering while still working in AE.
    Now everything is F@#%ed.
Could this script have caused AE to become angry that it needs to work harder?
I tried turning off the allow scripts check box in prefs and took the script out of the AE script folder but still the projects crash at startup and if I make
a new project I crash when dragging footage to the project window.
I’m sure the Projects themselves havent been corrupted because they work just fine on anoter MAC.

    Thanks!

If you are referring to Lloyd Alverez’s BG renderer script, I think it is very unlikely that it damaged anything. However, it is definetly possible to write scripts that deletes files, move files, change prefs etc in AE so if he created the script himself there is a possibility (however its a small one) that he has messed somehting up. I’de reccomend trashing and restoring your prefs. Also, is it just this project that is messing up….or is it any project on this machine?

It first started crashing on startup on the project the Freelancer did, and I had to revise.
I’m sure the project isn’t corrupted because it opens just fine on another computer.

Now any project I create will crash when I drag quicktimes into the project window.
Hmm. Maybe QuickTime is the culprit.

    Thanks!

Try opening a blank project, importing the project that was crashing, and then resaving it. Sometimes that will do the trick. Also, check if your quicktime was recent;y upgraded toa new version. I remember back ion AE 6.5 when I upgraded quicktime once, everything got messed up.
