Can a Macbook Pro playback full-frame 1080/24P ProRes at full-quality without dropping frames? and if so what model?

I’m considering projecting a film on the big screen from a MacBook Pro, probably using Quicktime. But it needs to look good (no preview quality), not glitch or drop frames, and be full 1920×1080 24P. It can be compressed with a good codec like ProRes or possibly a High bit-rate h.264.

Anybody know if a late-model MacBook Pro can handle that, and if so what models can (my 2.16 ghz intel core 2 duo can’t) ?

    Thanks, Josh

Yes. Current model, previous model…previous previous model like the one I have, 2.4Ghz model. The key is the HARD DRIVE. I have gotten ProRes 1080i 29.97 playback with a FW800 RAID 0 drive…a Caldigit VR. I can also get it with the VR Mini, or G-RAID mini. And a single drive via eSATA. FW400 won’t cut it reliably.

    But yeah, totally works.
