Can 1080i and 720p clips coexist on a single BluRay?
Is it possible to include 1080i and 720p clips on a single BluRay disc? I think the plan is to give the end user the choice of watching either set at the opening menu of the disc, but we’re not sure if it’s possible. Can anyone shed some light? Thanks

It is possible, yes – but the two different sizes/frame rates cannot coexist on the same timeline.

And my would you want to do this since it will be either 720p or upscaled to 1080?

Thanks for the replies! We are sending out material to different clients. Some broadcast in 1080i, and others in 720p, hence the need for multiple resolutions on a single Blu-Ray(although, we could make separate discs, but this route seems more economical. Thanks,

Sorry…it sounded like you were going to include the same material in both 720 and in 1080. Remember…the picture will be scaled to whatever monitor the end user is watching it on. So if they are watching your 1080 footage on a 720 monitor it will be downscaled to 720. If they are watching your 720p material on a 1080 monitor it will be upscaled to 1080..make sense?
If you HAVE to mixed both into one for a menu you will need to upscale your 720 to 1080 first to make 1 1080i title.

Actually, that is not correct. You can have a timeline with 720p and another timeline with 1080i in the same project, and when you output to Blu-ray, they will be retain their frame size and rate.

No I meant if you need to mix 720 and 1080 in the SAME timeline then you would want to upsacle the 720 to 1080 first.

Yup, that is correct…sorry about the misunderstanding, I thought you were referring to the disc in your last post.
