Camtasia to AE to DV widescreen
We captured our footage in Camtasia on dual monitors, and since Camtasia lacks the ability to crop properly when zooming and panning I chose to do this in After Effects instead.
The source material for AE is sqare pix from camtasia and I have interpreted it as so.
The output configuration from AE I need to figure out, is to fit an existing Edius Pro NTSC DV Widescreen (16:9) project.I have tried a million different configurations at this point and have read many sources, many of which supply different confusing output methods. The fact of the matter is that all of the configurations I have tried that passed when viewed in a computer media player are VERY blurry once interpreted on any of our video editing systems including those running Edius Pro, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro.
I’m guessing that this is a square to rectangular pixel conversion, but outputting to any non-square method seems to be even worse.
Any Ideas?? Thanks in advance to anyone willing to take the time.

Screen captures don’t work very well output to video because there’s a bunch of single pixel wide lines. I’d suggest that you keep it all square pixels.

Yeah it seems like so far the best output has been as a 756×480 sqare pix output so it matches the dv widescreen frame size and letting the video editing software interpret it and divide into rectangular. I also tried more pixels stretched down to a 720×480 output frame as I have seen recommended for stills (psd etc) but I think it actually converted to 720×480 square pix or something, as it seemed even worse when stretched out than the other methods.
Thanks for the reply. If anyone has ever had any luck doing this please let me know your methods – in the meantime I will continue outputting the fottage to our video team this way.

If you’re distributing via downloads or with media players stick with square pixels and get away from any rectangular pixels anywhere in the process. Screen captures just don’t work well with any video format.
All of the tuts i’ve ever seen delivered via the web or for media players like QuickTime, Windows media, Flash, or Real player work just fine if you stick to square pixels.

Yeah, all of the material we have distributed for the web has turned out great coming from screen capture. Unfortunately our livelihood is in instructional DVDs and at the moment we are still in the DV world. Will anything change in the coversion from screen capture when we go HD?
