Camera tracking/following a person
It’s not a particular FCP question, but I don’t know where else to ask, so I’ll give it a try:
I’m looking for a setup where a camera can follow a teacher, when he’s walking around up at the desk. I’m thinking of some kind of a transmitter/receiver, where a receiver on the camera can follow the transmitter, that are placed on the teacher, but I REALLY don’t know if that exist ????

Wirelessly controlled robotic camera systems probably cost more than raising a child to become a camera person. I’d do the latter first.

…to answer your existence question, though, those rigs do exist. They have a tracker in hockey pucks so that the goal cameras can follow along without missing a frame. Large theater performances sometimes use the same technology with a tracker worn by an actor to perfectly control their follow spots. I think the important thing to notice though is that in these applications precision is key. I don’t know if anyone could flawlessly follow a hockey puck that instantly starts moving at 80 miles an hour across a rink even once, much less every time it’s shot. In theater, this type of rig can ensure precise lighting queues 2 times a day, 4 days a week, for years. I’m not sure that you need this type of precision, especially given the cost, as Jerry noted, unless your application is much more extreme than your example.

I have seen inexpenive versions of radio directed mounts that couple to cameras mounted on standard professional fluidhead tripods. Check online at Markertek and B&H, I believe you will find them there.

I’ve give it a try both at Markertek and B&H, but I can’t find the cheap solution (it can be there, and just me there can’t find it), because since it’s a teaching situation there aren’t money to pay for a “big” pro-installation.
