  • Camera setup for 30p shoot

I am relatively new to the 30p world having just taken delivery of the HDX-900 about a month ago. We are about to shoot a project that is going to have a lot of foreground horizontal movement with the main subject in the background: The actor is going to be sitting on the bleachers while a basketball game goes on between him and the camera. It will be a MS on the actor, and the basketball game will mostly be the players’ midsections, out of focus.

Any recommendations on how to get the smoothest image playback while not getting too much of a blur? We will be shooting some tests before the shoot, but it’d be great if anyone had any jumping off points to share.

On the few projects we have used 30p with, we shot 720p59.94, 30p with the shutter set at “half” and had great results. Those were talking head interviews though, not full motion.

    Thanks-

After running some tests, we shot the ad with the same camera settings (720p59.94, 30p with the shutter set at “half”) and it worked great.

We kept the foreground movement very out of focus and there is no noticible strobing.
