  • Camcorder Canon XL1s, what should I do….????

    Hi,

this is Michael. I found a Canon camcorder at the german Ebay-Website.

    https://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130620136525

It’s a Canon XL1S and i’m interested on this auction, because it’s a whole set (in belonging to this auction): 16x lens, 3x wide lens, case and dual charger.
I know it’s only SD and miniDV, but it’s what i want. Professional production for beginners

But i don’t know how much i should spent on this auctions. Maybe someone of you guys can tell me what value this whole set might be without paying too much. What do you think?

Thanks for response and best regards,

    Michael

My advice to you is don’t do it. Not because the camera is SD, you can still do plenty of fine work shooting mini-dv sd. The main issue here is that those cameras are quite old and Canon is no longer supporting that series, so you’d be taking a huge risk if anything breaks. I don’t know what your budget is, but I’d advise looking at the recently discontinued Canon XL-2. It’s the follow-on to the XL-1 series and will at least be supported by Canon for a number of years. Also, there are any number of budget-priced hd camcorders now on the market. Take a little more time and shop around.

    Hello Michael,
I loved the XL1, but it arrived on the market 15 years ago! It has now so many limitations (low quality and light sensitivity, bad viewfinder, no LCD screen). If you have the budget, try to search for an XHA1 or XHA1S. It is DV/HDV, it has a wider and better standard lens (no need for wide or tele lens), a much better video quality and low light sensitivity. It has on the lens the three rings of professional devices (focus, zoom, iris); it is the right camera to begin as professional.
    Best Regards,
