Camcoder info for fcp
Posted by Chai Sokoloff on September 22, 2010 at 9:56 amHi,
I am not sure its the right place for this but:
I am trying to import/capture some materials from my new sony HDR-CX350V(avchd), but i am having hard time to find real & pro info about the files(fields, codec,sq pixels). Its weird that sony or other brands does not publish pro info for pro peoples using Camcorders.
Thank you

September 22, 2010 at 12:32 pmFirst transfer the files from your camera to a hard drive. Leave the file structure alone and copy it all.
OPen the log and transfer window in FCP: shift+cmd+8. Then navigate to the copies on the drive, and they will load into the window. Then drag them to where it says to drag them to. FCP will import the files as ProRes files. Then edit from these files which will be located in your Browser.

They do on pro cameras, that camera is far from pro.

September 23, 2010 at 12:57 pmThanks, but i wish it was that easy… For me, 80% of the time fcp does not recognize the file structure after it has been moved to an ext. HDD.. It seems that fcp knows that its not the camera, and has issues with it.
I am sure i copyed all the files. Thanks for answering…

September 23, 2010 at 1:12 pmThe only time I’ve seen problems copying tapeless media from the card or drive that originally recorded it is when the copy wasn’t EVERYTHING that was on said original recording media. Folders, files and their exact original file structures have to be identical with the original files. Shane’s tutorial explains all this, and I’ll wager it will fix you right up.
