First off, happy new year to everyone using these excellent forums. Throughout 2008 they got me through many problems and I’m sure 2009 will prove the same.

I’ve read the entire internet and still can’t find a straightforward answer to my question. By the way, I’m in the UK, PAL land.

I’ve just finished editing a commercial which included some legal text over parts of the picture. It had to be submitted to a clearance agency who check that everything in the commercial complies with various television laws. One thing that I was being caught out on was to do with the size of the text. All text needs to be at least 16 television lines high. This, it would seem, does not equate to size 16 text. My text is size 20, and apparently that = 16 television lines. Is there a way to check or calculate how high text is in terms of television lines without literally counting them on my monitor? The best answer I’ve had so far is “zoom into the picture and count the lines”… surely there’s another way!?

    Thanks in advance,
    Alex
