  • Cadence Issue Whan Capturing Over Camera Breaks…

I’ve been reading that some people encounter errors when trying to capture 24p(a) over recording breaks (i.e. when the camera stops / starts recording or is turned off / on). I have gotten a couple cadence / dropped frames error messages but luckily closing and reopening the capture window fixes the problem (may need to trash prefs). However, because the cadence supposedly restarts when the camera breaks recording, I am nervous that because I am capturing over these breaks, the cadence is going to be off (even if FCP doesn’t realize it – if that’s possible). The captured footage looks fine (to me).

I’m on 5.1.2, digitizing 720p 23.98 DVCPRO HD, footage shot on Varicam.

    Wadaya think?

I usually encounter the cadence error when I overlap shots and the DP has switched from 24P to 60P…so there is indeed cadence errors. I adjust my IN/OUT points and try again.

But i have also encountered what you have…cadence errors when there are none, and a simple quit and relaunch fixes it. Nothing wrong with the captured footage at that point.
