  • C500 — Internal 1080p recording of Slow/Fast mode?

We’re considering a C500 at work, and we want to record 4K for the bulk of our footage. Looking at the Ki Pro Quad for doing the 4K recording.

The vast bulk of what we plan to shoot will be 4K 24p, but I’d like to have the option to shoot overcranked 60-120 for special situations, even if it means doing so at a lower resolution.

However, it looks like the Ki Pro Quad only records 23.98, 24, 25, and 29.97 with a UHD/4K input, and only up to 59.94 in 2K. And I certainly don’t have the budget to get a Codex Onboard S ($15K!) to be able to record the overcranked 4K.

Does anyone who’s actually had their hands on a C500 know if the camera will record the full range of 1 to 120 fps to its internal 1080p MPEG-2 format? And is the footage of decent enough quality, to intercut with the 4K recording?

I realize it won’t be a perfect match, at the lower rez, but it would at least give me an option to work with, if it’s possible.

Save that, are there any lower budget options for external recording of the overcrank speeds?

    So… no one’s touched a C500, eh?

Currently in the exact same situation, and im fairly certain it does not do 120fps Incam. Your best bet for 120fps is the odyssey 7q at 1080p. However i have not tested it yet.

In camera, the C500 is exactly the same as the C300, meaning 720p60 is the highest fps you can record. For anything above 1080p and 60fps, you need the KiPro Quad or the Odyssey 7Q. Keep in mind that the 7Q will not give you compressed recording options at this time, with no date set on when it will be available. Meaning you get CanonRaw at the higher res/frame rates and that’s it with that unit for the time being.
