  • How to get cloned piano keys to align perfectly along a spline

I followed a tutorial to create piano keys using the cloner, with nulls separating the groups of black/white pattern keys. When I tried putting the cloner in object mode and selecting my spline, it appeared to do the trick of aligning keys along the path. However, the pattern of keys is all jacked up with the black keys too close together and too much space between the whites. I have the cloner on ‘even’ mode and increased the number of clones, but too many crowds the keys in odd ways. Can someone take a look at my screenshot and advise me on how to replicate these piano keys correctly, or be able to tell me what may have gone wrong? I’ve also included the project file if there’s no way to tell anything by the screenshot.

Thank you so much in advance!

For the first white cube under the cloner reset all the HPB settings to zero. And then set the “Rate Variation” to zero in the cloner’s Object settings. You can then increase the count as desired to close the gaps between keys, recognizing that doing so will also result in keys intersecting, especially around the bends of the spline.

Also, enable “Smooth Rotation” so the keys travel smoothly along the spline.
