I am considering buying C4D for motion graphics use, primarily for logo animations and the like, though I’m sure I’ll find other uses for it. I’m not sure, though, which version or modules to go for. I know I want the mograph module, but I’m not completely clear on some of the others such as Advanced Render. Does anyone out there have some experience working with C4D both with and without Advanced Render that can give me a rundown of what that module brings to the table?

    Thanks for your help,
    Steve

The main thing that AR adds is global illumination, which is the ability to render bounced light and also to generate light with textures (like HDRIs) and materials. AR also adds caustics, which are reflected and transmitted light (think mirrors and prisms). There are a few other additions, but nothing too exciting there.

So, basically the reason to buy AR is global illumination. It’s most useful for architectural visualization, although it can also be very effective with product viz and other things. It wouldn’t be that useful for logo work.

You can try it out by downloading the demo.
