I’m editing on FCP 7.0.3 and using Motion 4. I love to purchase Motion Templates to use in creating show opens. There are some great templates for Motion5. I’m wondering if I can just purchase Motion 5 and build opens using pre-purchased templates yet still keep motion 4 for other text files and round tripping. I realize Motion 5 will not round trip with FCP. Will Motion 5 work for me?

Sure you can use both on the same system. However, I would rename Motion 5 to something like “xMotion” because if you don’t, when you round trip from FCP 7, it might make Motion 5 launch instead of Motion 4. This way, Motion 4 will still be the default app.

    Thanks Mark,

How do you rename it? Because right now Motion 5 seems to have replaced Motion 4 on my dock.

    It’s in your Applications folder.

Yes I know, but when I click on it, and try to press “Enter” to change the name nothing happens. Thia works on other apps, just not on Motion 5

Works fine for me. What if you do a Get Info (Command-I) and change the name there?

Ok that makes no sense at all. Try signing in as a different user.

That didn’t work either. I can take many applications and change their name. But Motion does not allow that. Neither does FCP for that matter. Thoughts? Because now when I open up a motion 4 template it goes right to the NEW Motion 5 application.
