Buying a used camera
I am looking at a 4 year-old DVX100a that is selling for $1500, along with a Porta Brace case, a Sennheiser shotgun and some smaller accessories. A Bogen tripod would be an addition $200. Is this a good price for a camera this old? What questions should I ask the seller? And what should I look for when I inspect it?

How many hours are on the heads and has it been serviced recently. Also how does it look cosmetically. I think you can find a newer one for that much $.

Thanks. Yes, I saw a new one at Sonic Camera for $1250, but I was thinking if it was in good shape the case & the microphone might make it worth it. Maybe if he threw in the tripod too for the 1500, but I think it might have seen some use.
By the way, how many hours on the heads should be considered too much?

Well that depends on how hard the hours were- did they use a cleaning tape regularly etc. I’d say over 1000 hours and I’d be cautious. There’s a brand new DVX100 in this forum you can get for 2000 btw.
