Buy Connect HD now?
I’ve read everything I can get my eyes on regarding editing HDV on Vegas and I’m about to start actual work. Or at least testing. There is a strong consensus about the virtues of Cineform Connect HD, which has me on the verge of buying it. The one and only thing holding me up is the impending release of Vegas 7 — with “Enhanced HDV support” we are assured.
Here’s my question: Do you think Vegas 7 will make Connect HD obsolete? I’m perfectly willing to spend the $200 for Connect HD but not if Sony will duplicate all it’s functions inside Vegas 7 within one month of my purchase. Any thoughts?

From what I have read it would seem that the new version 7 will support native hdv editing without the need for a proxy or using Connect HD. This obviously needs to be confirmed once 7 is released which should be shortly.
I would hang on until the release before spending but thats only my opinion

My guess (hope) is that they have just tweaked Vegas so that anything dumped on the timeline previews better. As a happy user of Cineform I can’t wait to see if there is a performance boost with Vegas 7. I’m also guessing that mpeg-2 will still demand more proc. power to preview vs Cineform so Cineform may still be a good investment. Not to mention that it might still be the only way to capture 24p from the JVC hd100.
Probably best to wait and see though, of course if you need it now…
