I have the Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 1.41. It has the latest updates on it. When I burn a DVD using DVD-A2 (Architect 2.0), it only burns at 1x. Now, is there a way to boost that up? Is it my Pioneer? Is there something to upgrade on DVD-A2?

I have been using the cheapest ink-jet printable discs that I can find, and over the past two years I’ve delivered about three-hundred discs burned on my A04, and not one of them has come back as unplayable. When you burn at a slower speed, the laser gets a few more nanoseconds to “burn” the data bits into the dye layer.

I don’t have any “faster” drives to verify this, but it appears that half the rated speed of the media (discs) seems to be the sweet spot. The closer you push the burn to the rated media speed, the more coasters you make.
