    Hello everyone,

    Hope you’re all doing well.

I have just finished editing a 37 minute documentary shot in HD (1920×1080 25P) and wish to burn it onto DVDs to send it to festivals.

I exported an H.264 format video file which ended up being 5.2 GB.

What is the best way to burn this HD video file onto DVD while getting the best quality possible? What are the specific settings for the process?

If I can sacrifice some quality to be able to fit the file on a regular DVD, what compromises can I make without sacrificing a lot of quality?

Thank you so much for your help. Its greatly appreciated as I have to travel soon and take some DVD copies with me.

    Have a great day,
    Abed

Did you export a 1080 QuickTime? 5.2 gig?

    Standard DVD requires 720×480. Mpeg2. (16×9 anamorphic).

You 1080 file should be fines the DVD author should convert and burn as 480 mpeg.

There is a difference in a data DVD and a video DVD. I assume you want a playable video DVD….and not a file on a DVD as data.

I exported a 1920×1080 .mov file which was around 5.2 GB. It doesnt work for a DVD?

Can you tell me what export settings I should make through Compressor to export a high quality file to burn onto DVD later on?

I have no interest in making any chapters or menus for now, I just want a good quality video to play on DVD players. I think I will be authoring DVD copies through Compressor 4, which is why I need to know what the best settings or specs are for a clean and high res export.

    Thank you 🙂

A regular DVD player will not play HD material. You will have to convert it to SD. Seeing that your footage is 25p I think that you are living in a PAL country, the dimensions of your footage will then have to be 720×576 (anamorphic 16×9). In that case the easiest way to get a DVD out of an HD (1080p) source is using the preset / template in compressor. Mind you, this is not the best way (if there is such a thing).

Also if you are going to DVD, do not render into H.264, in fact never render to H.264 if that is not your delivery format. Just render to Proress and go from there, this will save you a lot of time.
