Is the bd burner you uss the bdr2203 sata unit? Didn’t see just a 220.

I’m guessing that the Pioneer BD-RW BDR-220 that I use is not available anymore. I’ve had it for a year now (paid $600) and it’s a 2x burner and I’m sure all the new ones are 4x (my bad for being an early adopter). I would go for whatever model replaced it. I just trust Pioneer and have always bought them and never had a problem.

With blue ray in mind, would one be better off going with architect 5.0 vs. say 4.5?
If I download 5 will it just patch over 4.5 or is it better to eliminate 4.5 prior to 5 install?

You guys are awesome, Im feeling much more confident about using the hdr-hc9 in hi def.
One more thing, if I may. Do I need to install the software that came with the cam to be able to load to pc for editing.
Have not needed to do so with sd cam to go into say, movie maker before I go into vegas?
Do I still download a .avi to edit in sv?

As you may know, the Sony HDR-HC9 is an HDV camera. You don’t need any addition software. The HDV capture tool within Vegas is all you need. It will capture M2T files. These are MPEG2/25MBps 1440×1080-60i files that are exactly what is on the tape (bit-for-bit). Once again the file extensions will be .m2t not .avi. These are the source files that you will use for editing. They should take up about the same disc space as DV AVI files do. Set your project for HDV 1080-60i (1440×1080, 29.970 fps) and you’ll be all set to edit.

I am using dvda 4.5 that came bundled with movie studio 9 plat.
Not sure if the 4.5 handles any thing with regard to blue ray?Can I even upgrade to 5 from 4.5 coming from an ms9 platinum purchase?
Or can one just prepare the blue ray files generated in movie studio in 4.5 and let say nero8 burn them?

That’s a different story. Just to be clear, you are not using DVD Architect 4.5 as you stated earlier. You are using DVD Architect Studio 4.5 which is different than the pro version of DVD Architect 4.5. No, the studio version does not author Blu-ray discs.

No you cannot. Studio and Pro are two different suites. You would have to also purchase Vegas Pro.

If Nero allows you to author Blu-ray discs then this would work. Notice I said “author” and not just burn. It would have to create the correct structure for you. I won’t use Nero because it causes incompatibilities with other Pro software so I don’t know what it’s current capabilities are.
You might want to check out Ulead DVD Movie Factory 6 Plus. It has an additional plug-in that allows the authoring of Blu-ray discs and it’s relatively inexpensive.

I’m a little confused, I have the hdr-hc9 which will shoot for blue ray purpose, I have movie stud 9 plat which will render for blue ray purposes but the dvda that came with the suite will not prepare for blue ray? Or will it prepare but just not burn blue ray?
BTW, I see that sony does have a dvda 5.0 download available, is this not applicable to my situation?

That’s correct. I’m not sure why you’re confused. It is clearly stated on the Sony web site in the Vegas Family Comparison.
