Burn DVD to my default of 60i?
Posted by Charles Smiley on August 9, 2020 at 7:54 pmIs there a way to lock the Tools> Burn DVD to my default of 60i?
It keeps changing it to 24 frames/sec.
Did they put default changing choice somewhere?

Hi Charles! Well, the Skinny on this is that 60i is not a DVD Compliant stream.
[Charles Smiley] “Did they put default changing choice somewhere?”
So, no.
I’ve always needed to Transcode Video to make it compliant with the MPEG2 format for DVD. That DVD Burn Tool is a blunt instrument attempting to do the heavy lifting for you. There’s much great info on the best transcoding pathway/procedure needed to be done. But it’s something like this:
A] Transcode to DVD complaint via Progressive at the same FrameRate and thence onto 30.
or
B] Transcode to DVD complaint via 30 Interlace.
There’s much to consider here: Much lighting and Movement variables to consider. Honestly? Try what’s being offered and you see the difference? Yeah?
[Charles Smiley] “It keeps changing it to 24 frames/sec.”
That 24 doesn’t resemble much of your footage. I’m not surprised and now you know why. So transcode in Vegas and burn that to DVD.
I’ve got some 60p (59.94), I’ll give it whirl, but I think I’ve already done this successfully?

August 10, 2020 at 4:00 amNo the1920x1080 NTSC 60i setting always works OK and makes fine test DVDs.
It just keeps changing back to 24 fps everytime I use it a second or subsequent time. It work be nice if it was a sticky setting.

August 10, 2020 at 4:00 amWell, I DO get the option to change and change it did – I thought so:
And this is the Transcode it achieved: 60p to 30i

Ah, righto. Mine does not exhibit that behaviour you’re getting. However, if I FORCE a Project Setting change from 60 to 50 then yes, I can get a Default that matches the Burn default. What is your Project settings set to?

August 10, 2020 at 5:39 pmThat selection needs a box to check to make it a personal default.
Anyhow, the difference is that I start with 24-fps HD converted to HD MXF for a little color correction temporary files made from historic and recently discovered 16-mm Rank-Cintel film transfers. I only need DVD copies for a few people (that lived the history) to help identify scenes and events.
It all works, except for the DVD setting always setting back to 24-fps. It seems a bit presumptive of whoever coded that routine.

August 10, 2020 at 7:03 pmCan you not open DVDA, set up your project defaults and then save that profile. eg BD 60i template or DVD 60i template.
When you come to make a DVD and have prepared the files within Vegas, open the appropriate template, add your files then resave as ‘myprojectname’. Works well for self and editor. Saves a load of hassle. -

Hi Geoff! Yeah, I did think the same, but our chum here, is set on doing this from his VP Timeline.

August 11, 2020 at 12:18 amNow that reminds me…. Is there a way to make the external monitor function default to always on when reloading a project?
I use a black magic Design internal board HDMI-ed to a flatscreen actual TV.

Have the same setup. Blackmagic selected in prefs. TV screen in use. Save & close project. Next time you open VP your screen should be TV screen via BM should be ready to use active. If not displaying look for button top left above preview window. It toggles external screen on/off.
