October 4, 2013 at 2:03 pmHi Jeremy,
when we started with figuring out how to edit this kind of stuff in X, that was actually my first thing to try out.
You have to know that when we record a feed, we have for instance a couple of hours long feed, broken up in 30-minute clips, because a Pix260 does that.
So we have to put them together. So far so good. But some of them also need to have a matte applied, because a patient’s name is on a monitor, and for privacy reasons, that kind of stuff needs to be blanked out.
This is where compound clips become very handy, just put a matte on it, and it ripples trough to everything.I think there were a couple of other reasons too, why I opted out of trying to have Multicam-clips for our purposes, but I forgot.
I think it was a bit easier and faster visually to see if sync got wrong, with timecode generators above it instead of timecode overlays in the multicam generator.
You need to have your View Angles open constantly if you want to see sync. Now we can just work with the viewer. That also helps.Regards,

October 4, 2013 at 3:58 pmThat makes sense, Mathieu.
It’s too bad you can’t take multicam down to One View, then you could have the view set for each angle and have the best of both worlds.
Thanks for sharing your info, it’s always cool to see how people approach these types of issues.
I still want a tc reader filter. 😉

October 8, 2013 at 3:51 pmI am wondering whether this plugin would help you in any way? Just found it myself.

Just a thought.

October 9, 2013 at 2:09 pmWell, we use Pipinator together with Squidborders, that gives us great results.
This plugin would maybe make the first timecode copy a bit less work, but not sure if it would be enough to justify the cost, because we often have sources with different aspect ratios.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll give it some further look, though.

February 18, 2014 at 5:20 pmFYI this bug has dissapeared in FCPX 10.1.
OW and Another bug that has dissapeared is that if you change the scale of a clip in the viewer trough the transform tools, it now immediately updates in the inspector.
