BT-LH1700 monitor or HDMI?
Posted by Galen Yeo on July 19, 2007 at 8:22 amhi
wondering if there’s a significant difference in getting the BT-LH 1700 panasonic hd monitor or getting a hdmi enabled screen and card (e.g. matrox) for monitoring HD….would one option be better than another?
thanks in advance.

the Panny 1700 is a pro HD monitor, nothing with HDMI can currently be considered Pro in this price range. also not too many HDMI monitors actually can handle 24p content.

that would depend on which sony monitor.
if we are talking the NEW Sony monitors – no comparison there (at 5x the cost)- but if we are talking Sony consumer displays or the older Luma units- the panny wins hands down
I also like the less expensive JVC 24in units also.

July 22, 2007 at 2:22 amWe recently got the 17″ Panasonic monitor for our field package. We also have a Matrox MXO hooked up to a 23″ Cinema display. Side-by-side they look identical.

July 25, 2007 at 7:54 amThanks. The Matrox MXO is touted as being a replacement (along with a HDMI input monitor) to a pro monitor…is that a legit claim? Can you make the same adjustments via the monitor and software?

July 25, 2007 at 7:41 pmV2 of the MXO software allows monitor adjustment/calibration. But, read the user guide carefully so you set everything up properly. As I said above, side-by-side, the MXO connected to a Cinema 23 looked identical to my Panasonic BT-LH1700WP broadcast monitor.
