BRU PE and IBM LTO drives

Again, this is not a technology issue, but rather a support-after-the-sale issue. With HP and TOLIS solutions, you will get proper support for the solution on OS X, Linux, and (coming next month) Windows. IBM nor Quantum (nor any other vendor) properly support the OS X platform because they simply don’t seem to understand it. And this is not just me saying this, but rather what our customers report when they contact those vendors for support on OS X.

If you haven’t done it yet, compare your IBM price with our ArGest solution of the same type (and ours comes with both the LTFS and BRU PE software included).

3 things to consider –

1 – Verify that the full manufacturer’s warranty is in effect on the device that you buy

2 – make sure that you’re not buying a refurbished device

3 – make sure that they actually have them in stock

If you are comfortable with the answers that you receive, grab the uint and save some money. BRU products will work with everything that they sell so long as the device that you receive is in proper working order :).

One more tip, the HP versions of the IBM drives that you list are in the same price range. By buying the HP drive instead of the IBM drive, you’ll get proper OS X support should you need to contact HP for help with the unit.

It has been 2 months since the last time I posted on this thread and prices on the LTO drives have not changed.

The HP LTO-5 is $621 more expensive than the IBM LTO-5 and the HP LTO-6 is $1,164 more expensive than the IBM LTO-6. For someone with my budget, that is a significant amount of money, specially for the LTO-6.

When it comes to post-purchase support, my experience with IBM was very positive, when I called about my Intellistation Workstation. I never needed to call HP about my inkjet printer, but I did call their sale department with questions about the LTO drives and was not impressed by the sales rep’s lack of product knowledge.

I’ve seen better support here from Tolis Group’s Tim Jones, and just for that reason I would feel confident buying BRU PE.

You are quite safe in buying the IBM LTO drive and BRU PE will work with it completely.
