Broadcast Settings Question
Hey All,
So I just got a gig to do my first national broadcast spot. My background is animation and explainer videos along with lots of corporate stuff mostly used on the web. Although I’ve done a lot with video and animation in my past using AE, this will be my first spot going on National TV. So, I’m wondering how I should set this file up and if there are any tips or suggestions for working in Broadcast.
I’m looking for:
– framerate and resolutions set ups – 1080p, 4k?
– color settings (8,16,32 bit?)
– black levels?
– anything else that might be overlooked like seizure / disability / CC guidelinesBasically stuff like that. Just trying to start the project correctly the first time so when its time to go live, there won’t be any “oh crap the file isn’t set up correctly” moments. I will be using AE primarily with some C4D thrown in. Any help appreciated!

The HDTV 1080 29.97 preset is your best option..I dont even think my computer could handle 4k

Get the delivery specs before doing anything.

Thanks all. I will be getting the specs when we start production, but I’m asking ahead of time to see if there are any quirks with standards to familiarize myself beforehand. I thought I read once that blacks need to be a certain shade and certain things can cause seizures, etc.

Black doesn’t need to certain shade but your delivery file needs to have the correct levels in it: https://www.lightillusion.com/data_tv_levels.html
We don’t know where you are but in the UK you need to pass the Harding test for anything that can trigger photosensitive epilepsy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harding_test

So I got the specs. Couple Q’s:
Here is what they except:
Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920×1080 23.98p 48 kHz
Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1920×1080
60i 48 kHz
Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) 1280×720
60p 48 kHz
ProRes 422 (LT) can be used if bandwidth is limitedFPS:
29.97 (1080i) 23.98 (1080p) 59.94 (720p)So is it safe to just use the HDTV 1920×1080 29.97 FPS preset in AE? Could I then export it to 1080i (29.97) or 1080p (23.989)? Wondering which would be better to export to.
Also, is 8 bit color OK?
