I have a new workflow for a project that I have been doing for the past couple of years.

In the past shoot in HD 1080i (HDCAM) edit in DVCProHD, color correct in HD and then downconvert the CC HD timeline via the Kona 3 to my laptop with a Io. Then I did applied the broadcast safe filter to the SD timeline (also letterboxed the show on downconvert). Then I just mastered to DigiBeta.

Now we are also going to make HD masters and probably will edit ProRes HQ.

My thinking is to get the IoHD edit, color correct everything is the HD timeline and then master to HD and use the IoHD to downconvert directly to the DigiBeta deck instead of doing a SD timeline to apply the broadcast safe filter. Does anyone have experience if the downconverted master is still within broadcast safe space. Sure would save a ton of time if I can do it this way.

Also there SD are really the main master since they will be what goes to air and the HD is for future use.
