Broadcast Safe!!
I’ve just recived some specs from a french tv-channel. They wish for me to add a broadcast safe filter on their stuff. But i don’t know if i should go with the conservative, or very conservative, or extremely conservative setting… Or if i should change som of the settings manuelly.
Please advise my friends!
Here are the specs:
Picture/Colors Specifications:
1- French norms are: ITU-R BT.601 EBU-R103 2000
Thus:
Colorimetric space YUV
Electric level 700mV (+/- 5%)
Synchro funds level: -300 mV (+/- 10%)
Luminance: 100%
Chrominance: 75% -

I take it you don’t have a hardware legailser… you should look into getting one, Courtyard make good ones. They’ll legalise your picture on play-out. If you want a quick and dirty way of getting it done, stick a ‘conservative’ broadcast filter in broadcast safe, or send it through Color with its broadcast safe option turned on. Its not ideal, but it’ll probably get your show passed.

We use Extremely Conservative and also be sure to throw the Levels filter on there too to keep all your blacks at 0. FCP can output SuperBlack, meaning below 0 and that will fail too.
