broadcast lxf files
Posted by Johannes Johannesen on September 21, 2010 at 10:53 amDear all,
I have a query regarding delivery to broadcast on an HD channel on satelite.
This is what they have sent me-
We are using Harris Transmission servers, your imported material will be broadcasted on (“*.lxf” MPEG2 50 mbps, 4:2:2, 4 “audio channels 16bit”), it is recommended for the imported files to be (“*.lxf” and the format to be MPEG2 and four audio channels)
first question – 16 bit is that really HD?
second question – can i export this straight from fcp or do i need special software?
thanks for your help in advance!

September 21, 2010 at 11:52 amJust google on:
Harris LXAnd pick the top hit.
you end up on the Cow again, and you will read a post from someone who knows, basicly tells you to go back to your client and require that they come up with something reasonable…Bouke

mind the ‘proprietary ‘ part…
Try exporting to XDcam, you end up with a MXF file, and if you have set everything right, it should be very close to what you need.
And since it’s Sony, probably your client will be able to work with it.
So i would suggest that you suggest that to your client…Bouke

Right.
Export XDCAM 422 50Mbps and re-wrap as with FC “Export to XDCAM” option.
As Bouke says, is basicalli what they are asking you.

September 21, 2010 at 5:59 pmWe deliver a lot of commercials to broadcasters and LXF is a nightmare look at telestream episode 5 ( 6 is in pre release) this is the cheapest solution – for 1000 bucks it does all you broadcast files and a million zillion billion other files – you can get a free trial which only does 30 seconds transcode – do you do lots of sends to the broadcaster ?

September 22, 2010 at 9:14 amthanks for your replies! great help. i m still a little confused though. So you are are saying I should export to xdcam file format from FCP and see what they say?
next step would be purchasing episode or mx4mac? i read somewhere that neither were making outcomes that were any good.for now we are only sending 4 hour footage over every month, with it likely to increase in the next few months.
thanks for your help!!!!

September 22, 2010 at 9:42 amRafael and me are suggesting indeed just that, send them something they did NOT ask for.
About Episode, i’ve got version 5.3.2 running, and i can’t find LXF output.
Now from the link, it’s a ‘ proprietary’ format, and i doubt they give it away.
But, since it’s 50 megabit Mpeg2, Sony MXF comes very close, to the format you described,
and Harris should be the company to support that…
(not LXF vs MXF, one letter difference, one pos in the alphabet…)If you don’t want to nag your client, contact Harris and ask them about your options.

I found on Rhozet Carbon Coder it is LXF and in Episode it is MXF – interesting – how about doing a 30 sec test to the TV STATION and seeing if they can accept tthe MXF …
