Broadcast guidelines using Vegas 9
Please bare with me…
I am required by an original recording artist to provide broadcast ready video data Dvds
& regular video authored Dvds (for pre-screening purposes),
the 4 minute 200+ splices & events of the music video edited with Vegas 9, using 8bit pixel format,
had to mix 720x480x32(1.21px,lower field 1st) mpeg shots and
1440x1080x12(1.33px,upper field 1st) avchd m2ts shots,both@,29.97fps.
The music video was rendered in a 335mb 16:9 mpeg2 file (720x480x32,1.21px-8bit,lower field first)
for sharing & web purposes with satisfying results,
enough for the artist to inquire the broadcast market and get the official video IRSC code…The 3 inquired local tv stations provided these music video submission broadcast guidelines:
Tech.Specs:
(Analog):-Black ajusted to 0 mV (No SETUP)__-White à 700 mV__-Cb & Cr levels (+ or – 263 mV)
-Product average level between -26 dbfs and -23 dbfs__-Maximum peaks (PPM) (–10 dbfs)

-data DVD (HD): MXF or MOV (XDCAM HD422 1080i60 CBR DropFrame 50Mb/s Long GOP IBBPBBPBBPBBPBB closed 4:2:2) /

With Timecode track(Include screening DVD with data DVD for TV broadcast)
Here’s the attribution of the 8 audio channels in 5.1 for MusiquePlus and MusiMax:
1- Front left__2- Front right__3- Center__4- Bass (LFe)__5- Rear left__6- Rear right
7- Video description left__8- Video description rightMy avail (not working on a Mac) was to try some (Vista platform) Vegas9 rendering settings and ended up with,
1 – 887mb (SD).mov 720x486x24 (1.0px,lower field 1st), 29.97fps, Sorenson Video 3, Stereo 2ch (48kz Little Endian 16bit)
2 – 1980mb (SD) .mxf 720x486x32 (0.9px,upper field first),29.97fps, IMX 50Mbps, 4ch PCM Audio (48kz 16bit)In Vegas9 session properties i used:
NTSC IMX (720×486; 29,970 ips) Field Order:Upper field, Deinterlace method:Blend fields, 0.9 – 8bit pixels, stereo Audio 44kz,16 bit,
adding an empty Timecode track on top of timeline (29.97with loss) + 1 empty stereo bus, all shots reframed to 16:9, main audio @ -3db…In rendering settings i used:
1 – mov. Standard NTSC (720×486; 29,970 ips) Field order: None, 1.0px, Sorenson Video 3, Uncompressed Audio 48kz, 16 bit.
2 – mxf. NTSC MPEG MX50 Wide Screen (720×486,1.21px,16:9 Upper field 1st), Uncompressed PCM audio 48kz, 16 bit.My fears are that both my required .mov and\or .mxf files will not meet the above Broadcast guidelines,
knowing these TV stations use Mac based platforms or Beta tapes…
Questions arise:
1 – What would be my best Vegas 9 session property setup prior to rendering ? Should i consider HD settings ?
2 – What is the ideal rendering settings (.mov and .mxf) for these required broadcast protocols ?
3 – How to setup the required 4 audio ch ?
4 – How to insert the required timecode without making it visible on the music video ?
5 – Should it end up in 4:3 or 16:9 (for either .mov or .mxf renders) ?
6 – Should i author and burn the required Pre-screening dvds with the rendered .mov video file ?I acknowledge this a lot of questions for one post,
but i’m running in circles trying different Vegas9 properties-rendering settings,
and would greatly appreciate some expert help on these broadcast requirements…
